Over 3,000 Students and Educators Attend Student Leadership Series Events in Texas

An estimated 3,146 students, educators, and trustees attended USHLI Student Leadership Series (SLS) events held at five schools in El Paso. USHLI is very grateful for the leadership and cooperation provided by the Socorro AFT in organizing these events.

The event featured nationally prominent motivational speaker, Jaime Carias, who is well known for his ability to inspire students of all ages from middle school to college and engage parents.



The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program. The program is designed to motivate students to improve their academic performance, graduate and pursue some level of post-secondary education. An estimated 107,493 have been served to date this year in 17 states.

USHLI Scholarship Opportunities & iPad Contest

USHLI Scholarship Opportunities & iPad Contest

To enter the iPad Contest, simply completethe online CreditSmart® training module titled "Your Credit and Why it is Important." Just by registering for the course and answering a six-question follow-up survey, you will be entered for a chance to win a free iPad from USHLI. The program will run from September 1, 2014 to June 1, 2015. The winners will be notified by email on a quarterly basis.

USHLI has awarded over 1.3 million in scholarships and internships to Latino students. With affordability being one of the main reason many Latinos are unable to complete their post-secondary education or training, USHLI  tries to help students stay in school and graduate by raising money for scholarships. Every year USHLI grants rising Latino leaders a scholarship and  the opportunity to attend the USHLI National Conference in February. The scholarship deadline is December 31, 2014.

RMHC®/HACER®, part of the U.S. Ronald McDonald House Charities® Scholarship Program, is one of the largest college scholarships for Hispanic students. It provides financial assistance to graduating high school seniors who face limited access to educational and career opportunities. Students are selected based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. The scholarship deadline is January 20, 2015.
     

Denny's Hungry for Education (HFE) is a multicultural scholarship program targeting students from high school through college and is designed to recognize and encourage academic accomplishments. The program will award more than $200,000 in scholarships to deserving high school and college students for their ideas to help Denny's fight childhood hunger. The scholarship deadline is April 30, 2015.

McDonald's-USHLI Series of Student Leadership Summits Continues in Tempe, AZ
McDonald's and USHLI continued its 2014 series of Student Leadership Summits in Tempe, AZ.  The event, held at Tempe High School, was attended by approximately 1,600 students, teachers and counselors. 

The event featured two nationally prominent motivational speakers, Carlos Ojeda and Ernesto Mejia from CoolSpeak, and a Career and College Recruitment Fair. The Career and College Recruitment Fair featured a Study Lounge sponsored by McDonald's, where students received useful information on scholarships and preparing for college. Sixteen (16) recruiters representing post-secondary institutions at every level participated. Complimentary apple slices and water were served. 

   

USHLI is very grateful to the entire team at Tempe High School for their leadership and invaluable assistance, and to McDonald's for its generous sponsorship of this series of Student Leadership Summits.

An estimated 9,805 students and educators attended USHLI Student Leadership Series (SLS) events in Santa Ana, CA. The series of events, organized in conjunction with the Orange County Department of Education and the Santa Ana Independent School District, was co-sponsored by Southern California Edison.
 
The events featured nationally prominent motivational speakers, Gabe Salazar and Roy Juarez, Jr., who are very popular among students of all ages from middle school to college. 

 

The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program. The program is designed to motivate students to improve their academic performance, graduate and pursue some level of post-secondary education. An estimated 102,747 have been served to date this year in 17 states.

USHLI Partners with Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs for Student Leadership Conference in Idaho


An estimated 500 students, educators, and community leaders attended the 8th Annual Hispanic Youth Leadership Summit held at Boise State University. USHLI is very grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs in this program, which was attended by students from throughout the state of Idaho.

The keynote speaker was award-winning actor Danny Trejo, a favorite among movie goers of all ages.


The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program. The program is designed to motivate students to improve their academic performance, graduate and pursue some level of post-secondary education.  An estimated 92,942 have been served to date this year in 17 states.

McDonald's-USHLI Series of Student Leadership Summits Continues in San Jose, CA
McDonald's and USHLI continued its 2014 series of Student Leadership Summits in San Jose, CA.  The event, held at San Jose High School, was attended by approximately 1,200 students, teachers and counselors. 

The event featured two nationally prominent motivational speakers, Carlos Ojeda and Ernesto Mejia from CoolSpeak, and a Career and College Recruitment Fair.  The Career and College Recruitment Fair featured a Study Lounge sponsored by McDonald's, where students received useful information on scholarships and preparing for college. Recruiters representing post-secondary institutions at every level participated.

An estimated 400 parents attended the Parent Leadership Conference held in Laredo, Texas. USHLI is very grateful for the opportunity to partner with theLaredo Independent School District in this program, which was attended by parents from throughout the district.

The event featured nationally prominent motivational speaker, Andres Lara, who is a favorite among students of all ages from middle school to college. A parent training workshop was presented by Jaime Carias.

The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth and family education program.The program is designed to motivate students to improve their academic performance, graduate and pursue some level of post-secondary education, and empower parents. An estimated 88,845 have been served to date this year in 16 states.

The 33rd USHLI National Conference will be held February 12-15, 2015, at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers in Chicago, IL. We want to encourage as many groups of 10 to pre-register and pre-pay before the deadline as possible, which is December 31.  Groups of 10 that pre-register and pre-pay before the deadline will be automatically entered into a raffle. The winning group of 10 will receive a full refund and attend the national conference as our guests, including VIP seating at all food functions!  
  
We are expecting a full house again this year of 6,000-7,000 present and future leaders representing 40 states.  As in years past, over 81% will be 18-34 years of age, over 60% will be women, and over 89% will be college students or recent graduates.  It's going to be a great celebration featuring nationally prominent speakers, expert presenters, exhibits, and great entertainment.
