Over 2,500 Students Attend Student Leadership Series Event in Reno, NV


An estimated 2,500 students and attended a USHLI Student Leadership Series (SLS) event held in Reno, NV.  The event was hosted by Spanish Springs High School.  USHLI is very grateful for the leadership and cooperation provided by administrators at Spanish Springs.

The featured speaker was Roy Juarez Jr., one of the top motivational speakers in the nation and a favorite among students of all ages from middle school to college. 
  
  

The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program.  Our goal in 2014 is to serve 200,000 students, parents, and educators in 30 states.  The program will serve to motivate students at all grade levels, train parents, and help create a culture of education.  An estimated 35,301 have been served to date in states.

Events in Orange County, CA

Over 10,400 students and educators attended Student Leadership Series (SLS) events held at three high schools and eight intermediate schools.  The tour was organized in partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District and the Orange County Office of Education.  USHLI is very grateful for the generous support from educators at the 11 participating schools, the SAUSD and the OCDoE, and for the overwhelming success of the tour.


The featured speakers were Gabe Salazar and Jimmy Cabrera, who are ranked among the very top motivational speakers in the nation.
The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program.  Our goal in 2014 is to serve 200,000 students, parents, and educators in 30 states.  The program will serve to motivate students at all grade levels, train parents, and help create a culture of education.  An estimated 32,697 have been served to date in states.

The SLS program focuses on Stay-in-School Rallies for middle school students, Career & College Recruitment Fairs for high school students, Regional Leadership Summits for college students, Leadership Training for parents and Professional Development for educators.

Student Leadership Series events in Arlington, TX

Over 4,200 students and educators attended Student Leadership Series (SLS) events held at six junior high schools including: Hutcheson, Workman, Carter, Ferguson, Ousley, and Barnett.  The tour was organized in partnership with the General Motors Foundation and the Arlington Independent School District. USHLI is very grateful to the GM and Arlington ISD team for organizing this highly successful tour.
 
The featured speakers were the Cuban Guy and Jimmy Cabrera, two of the top motivational speakers in the nation and favorites among students of all ages from middle school to college.

Rhett Partida & Maria De La Luz Magaña Receive $1,000 Scholarships

USHLI has awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships and internships to Latino college students. With affordability being one of the main reasons many Latinos are unable to complete their post-secondary education or training, USHLI tries to help students stay in school and graduate by raising money for scholarships.
USHLI is proud to partner with the Ford Blue Oval Scholars program. Twenty (20) Latino students attending 17 colleges or universities in 8 states have been selected to receive scholarships in 2014. Students must demonstrate strong leadership potential and the need for financial support must be equally strong.  Also, additional consideration is given to students who are the first in their family to graduate high school or the first to pursue post-secondary education or training. 

Two of our scholarship recipients are Rhett Partida and Maria De La Luz Magaña. Rhett is a junior at the University of Rochester and majoring in Biology. Maria is a freshman attending Ivy Tech Community College, and majors in Accounting.

Over 490,000 high school and college students have participated in USHLI's education programs including Students for an Educated Democracy, Citizens for an Educated Democracy, Student Leadership Series, Collegiate Leadership Development, Grassroots Leadership Development, and 21st Century Leaders/MillerCoors Scholars.

In addition, USHLI has registered over 2.3 million new voters and published over 425 studies and reports on Latino demographics. In 2012 USHLI was recognized as the National Organization of the Year.

An estimated 1,473 students and educators at Chicago-area high schools attended Student Leadership Series (SLS) events in April.  The events, organized in partnership with GEAR UP, consisted of Student Assemblies held in two high schools including Theodore Roosevelt High School and Little Village Lawndale High School, as well as two middle schools including Thurgood Marshall and Maria Saucedo Scholastic Academy.  

The featured speaker was Jimmy Cabrera, ranked among the top motivational speakers in the nation.

Over 1,200 students and educators at Central High School attended a Student Leadership Series (SLS) event on February 26.  The event featured a Student Assembly and a Career and College Recruitment Fair that attracted over 60 recruiters and exhibitors.

Over 900 Students Attend Student Leadership Series event in Raleigh, NC

USHLI's Student Leadership Series (SLS) continued its spring campaign with a successful partnership event with the North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals in Raleigh, NC. USHLI co-sponsored the NCSHP's  Hispanic Educational Summit.  Now in its 15th year, the event included a motivational session, workshops on life skills, education planning, and career planning, and 36 exhibitors representing post-secondary institutions, community organizations, and branches of the military. 

The featured speaker was Andres Lara, The Cuban Guy, a nationally prominent motivational speaker and a favorite among high school and college students. USHLI is very grateful to Marco Zarate,  president and co-founder, for the opportunity to co-sponsor this outstanding program.

Over 2,500 students and educators attended Student Leadership Series (SLS) events held at six schools including: Harry H. Rogers Middle School, Longfellow Middle School, Brackenridge High School, and Sam Houston High School. The tour was organized in partnership with the San Antonio ISD. 

The featured speaker was Jimmy Cabrera, ranked among the top motivational speakers in the nation.

Columbia, SC

USHLI partnered with the Richland School District 2 and the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs in bringing the Latino Future Visions Conference to nearly 200 students, parents and educators in Columbia, SC. The leadership training event, a valuable component in USHLI's Student Leadership Series, focused on how parents can be more effectively involved in the education of their children. 
 
The featured speaker was Lina Traslavina-Stover, a doctoral student at the University of Nebraska.
