USHLI partnered
with the Richland School District 2 and the South Carolina Commission for
Minority Affairs in bringing the Latino Future Visions Conference to nearly
200 students, parents and educators in Columbia, SC. The leadership
training event, a valuable component in USHLI's Student Leadership
Series, focused on how parents can be more effectively involved in the
education of their children.
The featured
speaker was Lina Traslavina-Stover, a doctoral student at the University of
Nebraska.
The Student
Leadership Series (SLS) is USHLI's flagship youth program. Our goal in
2014 is to serve 200,000
students, parents, and educators in 30
states. An estimated 3,399
have been served to date in 2
states.
The SLS program
focuses on
Stay-in-School Rallies for middle school students, Career & College
Recruitment Fairs for high school students, Regional Leadership Summits
for college students, Leadership
Training for parents and Professional Development for
