McDonald's and USHLI Launch Series of Student Leadership Summits in Cicero, IL |
McDonald's and USHLI launched the 2014 series of Student Leadership Summits in Cicero, IL. The event, held at Morton East High School, was attended by over 2,500 students, teachers and counselors. The event featured two nationally prominent motivational speakers, Carlos Ojeda and Ernesto Mejia from CoolSpeak, and a Career and College Recruitment Fair. The Career and College Recruitment Fair featured a Study Lounge sponsored by McDonald's, where students received useful information on scholarships and preparing for college. Forty-two (42) recruiters representing post-secondary institutions at every level participated.
Ms. Carmen De Carrier, a local McDonald's owner/operator, addressed the students as well. USHLI is very grateful to Dr. Michael Kuzniewski, the Superintendent at J. Sterling Morton High School District, and the entire team at Morton East High School for their leadership and invaluable assistance, and to McDonald's for its generous sponsorship of this series of Student Leadership Summits. Complimentary apple slices and water were served.
The SLS is USHLI's flagship youth program. The program is designed to motivate students to improve their academic performance, graduate and pursue some level of post-secondary education. An estimated 61,878 have been served to date this year in 10 states.
